Mr. Alvarez serves as General Counsel for the Tampa Police Benevolent Association, the Union representing over 1100 active, reserve and retired members of the Tampa Police Department. He also helps businesses of all sizes navigate day-to-day operational, legal and marketing issues with a concentration on business growth and increased sales. Mr. Alvarez taught Business Law at the University of Tampa for almost nine years and is regularly requested by media outlets in English and in Spanish to provide insight on legal and business matters.
Mr. Alvarez also serves as a motivational and keynote speaker specializing in leadership, self-improvement, business development and becoming a better individual. He has spoken nationwide to corporations, associations, government entities, schools and civic groups to groups of all sizes. His talks have been in both English and Spanish and focus on getting the best out of an individual whether in a team setting or while seeking individual improvement.


EXPERIENCE
Mr. Alvarez has experience in the private, political and government sector. For seven years, Mr. Alvarez worked as writer and photographer at the Miami Herald. After college he served as an infantry officer in the United States Army before transitioning to a Johnson and Johnson affiliate as a successful pharmaceutical sales representative. After law school he worked as an associate in-house counsel for a financial services firm as well as the Director of Strategic Development for a trust administration and Medicare compliance company. In 2014 Mr. Alvarez was asked to direct outreach and communication efforts to the Hispanic community in the Tampa Bay Area on behalf of the Governor of Florida and his re-election efforts. In private practice, although he currently focuses on Family law, he has concentrated his efforts on every facet of business law to include litigation, dispute resolution, entity formation and contract.
In 2017 he was recruited to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office to help transform their communications efforts first as a Public Information officer and then as the Chief Communications Officer, a member of the Agency’s command staff. He was later promoted to Special Projects Manager in charge of overhauling and transforming the Agency’s antiquated warehousing, ordering and distribution system. In late 2020, he rejoined the private sector and opened his private law practice while serving as the Chief Legal Counsel for the Tampa Police Benevolent Association representing over 1,100 law enforcement officers.

Mr. Alvarez was appointed to the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority Board of Directors by the Governor of Florida in 2015 and currently serves as its Secretary.

For five years, He served as the President of the thirty-year old Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Hispanic Advisory Council which advises the Sheriff on issues affecting the Hispanic Community. Additionally, he was a civilian serving on their Shooting Review Board and was awarded the Honorary Deputy Designation for his work with the Agency.

For over five years, Mr. Alvarez was an appointed board member for the Hillsborough County Children’s Services Advisory Board.

After graduating from the Hillsborough County Bar Association Leadership Institute, Mr. Alvarez was asked to join the executive committee of the program in order to help facilitate it.

In 2013, Mr. Alvarez helped organize and was a founding board member of the Course of Action Non-profit Corporation which was created to help foster, develop and encourage economic development in the Tampa Bay Area.
